update: UN school bombed, at least 46 killed this morning alone, warning to evacuate “buffer zone”

updated

according to the ministry of health, at least 1,255 palestinians were killed since july 8 until 7 am local time this morning and 7100 were injured. according to the palestinian ministry of health, almost 5000 homes were completely destroyed to date (747 residential buildings destroyed or damaged according to UN ocha yesterday).

this morning ani blog on palestine and resistanceother one of the 83 UN schools that currently shelter  a total of 200,400 internally displaced people was bombed this morning. at least 19 people were murdered and an estimated 90 were injured when the UNRWA school in jabalia refugee camp was bombed.

unrwa spokesperson chris gunnes:

“Tens of thousands may soon be stranded in the streets of Gaza, without food, water and shelter if attacks on these areas continue”

“This is the 6th time 1 of our schools has been struck in #Gaza fighting. Our staff are being killed. Our shelters are overflowing”

“UNRWA condemns in the strongest possible terms this serious violation of international law by Israeli forces”

“Precise location of Jabalia Elementary Girls School #Gaza & that it housed 3,000 displaced was communicated to Israeli army 17 times”

“These are people who were instructed to leave their homes by the Israeli army”

“There were multiple civilian deaths and injuries including of women and children and the UNRWA guard who was trying to protect the site”

“We believe there were at least three impacts. It is too early to give a confirmed official death toll”

“Our initial assessment is that it was Israeli artillery that hit our school, in which 3,300 people had sought refuge”

“We have visited the site and gathered evidence. We have analysed fragments, examined craters and other damage”

“Children killed in their sleep; this is an affront to all of us, a source of universal shame. Today the world stands disgraced #Gaza”

“Last night, children were killed as they slept next to their parents on the floor of a classroom in a UN designated shelter in #Gaza”

unrwa commissioner general pierre krähenbühl:

“This is 6th time one of our @UNRWA schools has been struck. Our staff leading int’l response are being killed. This is a breaking point.”

“Children, women and men killed & injured as they slept in place where they should have been safe and protected. They were not. ”

“I strongly condemn today’s Israeli shelling of @UNRWA school in Jabalia #Gaza. No words to adequately express my anger and indignation.”

this morning alone, at least 45 people where reportedly murdered in the gaza strip.

yesterday, over 120 people were reportedly murdere

in gaza. among those killed were 13 members of the agha family in khan younis.

the occupiers warned anyone living in the unilaterally declared (and arbitrarily expanded) “buffer zone” – which currently has a width of 3 km and therefore comprises over 44% of the gaza strip – to evacuate, except for three locations. according to UN ocha’s report yesterday, over 240,000 palestinians in gaza are currently displaced and seeking shelter with unrwa schools, government schools, other public buildings, churches, mosques and friends or relatives.

after the occupation army bombed the only power plant in gaza yesterday, the power plant stopped operating. experts say that given the criminal siege, it will take a year to get it to function again (and it wasn’t functioning at full capacity before due to repeated attacks).

see anne’s pictures of the aftermath of the bombing of al shati refugee camp yesterday during which at least 10 children were murdered.

video of hamas militants attacking occupier’s military base suggests hamas does attempt to target military only

since yesterday, a video is circulating that seems to show hamas get into the territory of 48 through a tunnel, then storm a military base of the occupier and kill several soldiers.

to date, at least 53 soldiers were killed – in addition to two israeli citizens, one of whom was a bedouin whom the zionist government refuses to provide with shelters and warning sirens or even to allow them to build equivalent structures themselves, and one thai worker. hamas has repeatedly declared that in various “cross-border” operations, they had had the opportunity to attack non-military israelis, but that they choose to attack soldiers only (since they don’t have high-precision missiles such as the zionists do, that would permit them to specify their targets, they continue to fire their sometimes even self-made rockets that allows them to target only a general direction). as i have pointed out before, it is not a wide stretch to imagine that hamas militants could in fact have launched military operations in zionist residential areas, but seem to in fact concentrate their fighting to military targets.

i do realize that this is a (counter)propaganda video, yet i still find it remarkable. i find it remarkable that while the zionists’ stated goal is to weaken hamas’ military wing and might (which i personally didn’t know was particularly strong, but find myself surprised these days) and to specifically destroy their tunnels, they have so far killed over 1200 palestinians, bombed schools, mosques, hospitals, over 747 residential buildings, markets, the port, the power plant, ambulances, and other vital infastructure, and yet don’t seem to have noticeably damaged the tunnel infastructure. this while THEY do have one of the most advanced military technology available on earth, including all kinds of precision surveillance equipment, high precision weaponery, etc.

EXPOSED: eran efrati: in shuja’iya, occupation army killed for revenge

eran efrati posts on his facebook page that he heard from occupation military itself that the army carried out pre-planned attacks in revenge in shuja’iya, at least in two cases, including apparently in the shooting of salem shamaly, whose murder was captured on camera.

I was told that the unofficial reason was to enable the soldiers to take out their frustrations and pain at losing their fellow soldiers (something that for years the IDF has not faced during its operations in Gaza and the West Bank), out on the Palestinian refugees in the neighborhood. Under the pretext of the so-called “security threat” soldiers were directed to carry out a pre-planned attack of revenge on Palestinian civilians.

here the whole post

In recent weeks I was on the border of Gaza and getting reports from soldiers in the Gaza Strip who leak information out to me. I am in the process of publication of two big stories in major U.S. newspapers, but there are some things I can share with you right now: Soldiers in two different units inside Gaza leaked information about the murdering of Palestinians by sniper fire in Shuja’iyya neighborhood as punishment for the death of soldiers in their units. After the shooting on the Israeli armored personnel carriers, which killed seven soldiers of the Golani Brigade, the Israeli army carried out a massacre in Shuja’iyya neighborhood. A day after the massacre, many Palestinians came to search for their relatives and their families in the rubble. In one of the videos uploaded to YouTube, a young Palestinian man Salem Shammaly calls the names of his family and looking for them between the ruins when he is suddenly shot at in his chest and falls down. A few seconds after that, there are two additional shootings from snipers into his body, killing him instantly. Since the video was released, there was no official response from the IDF spokesperson. Today I can report that the official command that was handed down to the soldiers in Shujaiyya was to capture Palestinian homes as outposts. From these posts, the soldiers drew an imaginary red line, and amongst themselves decided to shoot to death anyone who crosses it. Anyone crossing the line was defined as a threat to their outposts, and was thus deemed a legitimate target. This was the official reasoning inside the units. These stories join many other similar ones that Amira Hass and I investigated in Operation Cast Lead. The death toll that continues to rise is steadily reaching the numbers of the massacre of 2009.
More than 1,100 have been killed in Gaza, at least 80 percent of them civilians. Today it is cleared for publication that at least 4 soldiers were killed by a rocket in a gathering area outside of Gaza, and another soldier was killed in Gaza. They join 43 soldiers that have already been killed. We know that more acts of revenge will come soon and it is important that we not stay silent. This is the time to take to the streets and to social media. Demand from your representative wherever you are to stop supporting this massacre and to immediately boycott the state of Israel until the occupation ends, the blockade is lifted and Palestinians will be free. We all want to be in the right place at the right time when history knocks on our door, and history is knocking in Gaza right now. You need to decide on which side you want to go down in history.

update friday 18.07. to monday 28.07.

i haven’t been updating. it’s really hard on me not to be able to return to palestine during this. it’s the first time since i first went to palestine that i am in europe when attacks, horrors on this scale happen. during cast lead, i was at least in egypt, with people who felt similar outrage, trying to get to gaza, fighting with the egyptian state/police/military machinery there. here… i don’t have a network of people who feel the rage (how can they not feel it?), that know. and the contrast between daily life and my feelings and thoughts is so stark that it’s paralyzing me, i am struggling to remain somewhat functional.

that said, i want to briefly sum up SOME f the shit that happened in the past few days:

two hospitals were attacked since friday night.

on friday, beit hanoun hospital was shelled for over seven hours. a group of people including internationals in shifa hospital held an emmergency press conference while in touch with their friends in beit hanoun hospital, trying to generate enough pressure to stop the shelling. here is an account of an international in the hospital, here another one, and here is an article.

saturday

just before the truth, on saturday, the occupation army escalated their bombing and shelling and killed at least 20 members of one family among others. read pchr report here. and this article.

on saturday, two more palestinians were assaulted by fascists in jerusalem.
